Boukary Ouédraogo

Aged 27, Boukary makes moisturizing body lotion and soap from shea butter.

Boukary was not born with his disability. At the age of five, it was discovered that his hip bone had not formed in the correct position, making it difficult for him to walk. All attempts to correct this failed, and he remains permanently disabled. He went to school until Year 6, but on failing his BEPC exam (Brevet d’études premier cycle), decided to devote himself to his artisanal work. He works from home.

Boukary became a member of Tigoung Nonma in 2013. He was first trained in the manufacture of artisanal cosmetic products in 2005 and started producing in 2010. The production process of one batch of soap can last about 30 minutes, the body lotion takes a little longer. With the exception of the shea butter, the ingredients for both products, come mainly from the Ivory Coast and Ghana.
