Mariam Project (2014)

A gesture of generosity, and now a beggar under the streets of Ouagadougou.

In February 2014, Tigoung Nonma (TN) received on its premises a Swiss diplomat named, Iolanda. The purpose of his visit was the inclusion in TN a disabled woman who spent her time begging at the traffic lights just next door to the diplomat. After an interview a few minutes, Iolanda promised to return with Mariam, the disabled woman. A few days later, it was done; the woman was there. But in light of his disability, he was unable to find an area in which the craft form. So Tigoung Nonma proposed to Iolanda and Mariam up a project of small business and it was well received. Iolanda was preparing a trip to South America has provided a significant amount of money to Tigoung Nonma to run the project.

For starters, Tigoung Nonma did make a table for small business Mariam. A set of goods namely soap, ointment, sugar, cigarettes, coal was purchased to start the business.

Four days after the start of sales, Mariam was able to save a sum of FCFA 5,000 (= € 7.70); accounting for it at least a half months rent as it pays FCFA 3500 per month. Begging, she would never have the money.

In addition to the project Tigoung Nonma pitted Mariam live: corn flour, rice, oil, sugar, etc. After that, his house was réfectionnée with a new roof and a stronger door to protect his family and his goods. A shed was built in front of his house to allow it to sell and cook under the shade. Her husband, who is blind is very pleased with the gesture made the place his wife who will benefit the whole family.

the big shots

Now, with this occupation, Mariam said not be ready to return to begging. A beggar less is a small victory compared to the national problem of begging in Burkina Faso, but it is a step on the way to its final eradication.

Thank you to Iolanda who by his actions has lifted a person begging. We Tigoung Nonma, will continue to fight against begging for people with disabilities.
